Becca, Saying Good Luck, Not Goodbye.

When Becca Peterson became our Director of Family Ministry back in April of 2014, she and her husband Dustin had a little boy named Abe with another child on the way.  Now, Abe is 12, Margee is 7 and Theo just turned 2 ½.  Life’s journey is filled with many twists, turns and adventures and Becca finds herself at a wonderful crossroad along the way.  But we’ll get back to that in a bit.

Over the years, Becca has embraced her various duties with passion, energy and enthusiasm.  During her time with us, our youth became actively involved with Vacation Bible School, Valentine’s Dinner theater, Trunk or Treat, Christmas caroling, various mission trips, pie baking, Christmas shopping for needy and the Giving Tree, Easter egg hunts, sidewalk chalking and work with World Relief to assist refugee families.

When asked of all these things what gave her the most satisfaction, it was the enjoyment and fun she had watching her program model develop and grow providing opportunities for kids and families in mission.  She takes joy in seeing how robust Sunday school became in attendance supported by parents, teachers and shepherds and to see the involvement and leadership developed by the youth participating in weekly church services.  Becca gets it.  She realizes it’s really much to do about developing relationships and she did so with wonderful results.

Now, life is leading Becca down a slightly different path.  She has accepted a position teaching social studies at Moline High School.  She earned her advanced degree in education and now has the opportunity to further utilize those skills.  Teaching social studies at MHS must be in her DNA.  Becca’s grandfather, Gene Shepley, also taught the same subject there as well.

Becca wants to be perfectly clear that although she is stepping down as our Family Ministries Director, she and her family have every intention of staying on as active church members and she remains available to assist if needed once she gets settled in her new position.

As a result of these decisions, Becca is also insistent that she does NOT want any party or send-off in any way.  Not even cards.  It is her hope we will honor her wishes.  Becca’s last official day in her current capacity will be July 9, 2021.

After all, the Petersons aren’t going anywhere, and that is a very good thing.

Thank you, Becca.  Job well done.
